I myself had to go with phpBB becasue of money issues. I would agree that phpBB sucks for admin usages, but I think it is just a challenge to mod it better. That and I would wait cause phpBB is going to be releasing there new 3.0 verion very soon this month, and from what I here it is going to be a huge change for admin functionality, and secuity issues they have been having with 2.0.9 or lower.
